The demolition of the former 5-story Manitoba Clinic involved an extensive asbestos abatement throughout the structural steel building. A crew of 12 workers removed asbestos and PCB materials from the site over a 3-month period during the coldest months in the Manitoba winter. The demolition began with the 1997 single story addition that surrounded 2 sides of the structure followed by the top down procedure of the 5-story structure using a high-reach excavator. Careful attention to flying debris and dust was a must as the site is located within the busy Health Sciences Centre complex.
